A Guide to the Thanksgiving Season with Meals on Wheels

From the Walk to End Hunger on Thanksgiving to information on holiday meal delivery, here’s your guide to everything you need to know regarding Meals on Wheels during the Thanksgiving season.

Information on volunteering on Thanksgiving

  • Walk to End Hunger

The most fun – and most family-friendly way – to give back this Thanksgiving is to participate in the Walk to End Hunger. This perfect family event could soon become a new Thanksgiving tradition! The walk takes place Thanksgiving morning at the Mall of America. There are designated “Fun Zones” stationed through the mall, so you will find something to entertain you at every corner. Some of the activities taking place during the Walk include an obstacle course, face painting, a photo booth, balloon and airbrush artists, and activities that involve putting together food packages for people who need food this Thanksgiving. The Walk is also a great chance to talk about and experience the importance of helping others with your family. It’s the best way to give back before you give thanks! All of the money raised goes toward Meals on Wheels, you can sign up to walk for Meals on Wheels here. If you can’t make it, consider donating to the Metro Meals on Wheels team.

  • Deliver Meals

Most of our member programs deliver Thanksgiving meals for reheating on Thanksgiving Day during the days leading up to Thanksgiving. If you’d like to start delivering meals head to the volunteer page on our website..

Information on receiving meals on Thanksgiving

  • Current meal recipients

All Meals on Wheels programs will be offering the option of an extra meal for recipients that’s delivered earlier in the week so that they will still have a meal on Thanksgiving. If you have any questions about how you will receive meals during the week of Thanksgiving, contact your local Meals on Wheels program or Metro Meals on Wheels at 612-623-3363.
